ORIANA & CANBERRA

When ORIANA entered service in 1995 it was inevitable that on some occasions the two would meet each other in service. In the the 2 years until CANBERRA's retirement the two ships did meet on several occasions. A unique sight to see the contrast between the 1960s style of CANBERRA and 1990s style of ORIANA. The most noteworthy of these meetings was from September 1997 where the two both anchored off of the French port of Cannes during CANBERRA's Farewell Cruise where ORIANA received the Golden Cockerel trophy from the retiring CANBERRA. During early October 1997 after CANBERRA's retirement ORIANA would be seen several more times while CANBERRA was alongside the QEII berth being destored.

On the 13th October 1997 during the early hours of the morning ORIANA and CANBERRA met for the final time while ORIANA was bound for Vigo and CANBERRA with a crew of only 72 onboard was heading to Egypt to await orders for where to proceed for scrapping.
