When ORIANA entered service in 1995 it was inevitable that on some occasions the two would meet each other in service. In the the 2 years until CANBERRA's retirement the two ships did meet on several occasions. A unique sight to see the contrast between the 1960s style of CANBERRA and 1990s style of ORIANA. The most noteworthy of these meetings was from September 1997 where the two both anchored off of the French port of Cannes during CANBERRA's Farewell Cruise where ORIANA received the Golden Cockerel trophy from the retiring CANBERRA. "As with her cherished namesake and her sister the sacred CANBERRA, old acquaintance will be more than enough to ensure that whenever the great ships of Britain are brought to mind, another ORIANA shall now never be forgot."
