In 1912 it was said by the Managing Director of the Belfast shipyard Harland & Wolff, that "It takes 3 million rivets and a lot of sweat to build a fine ship" while speaking about the yards latest creation White Star Lines RMS TITANIC.
83 years later the last passenger ship to built at the famous yard CANBERRA received her new fleet mate and "daughter" ORIANA who proved that with newer building techniques all you needed was 45 prefabricated blocks of steel to create undeniably the most elegant ship of the late 20th century.
Below is a diagram showing the manner in which ORIANA was divided in to sections and the numbering of the blocks.
"As with her cherished namesake and her sister the sacred CANBERRA, old acquaintance will be more than enough to ensure that whenever the great ships of Britain are brought to mind, another ORIANA shall now never be forgot."
