At 01:30 ORIANA's time today it is reported that the bow of a stricken vessel was observed from ORIANA' s bridge.
Commenting via their Facebook page P&O Cruises said:
"We can confirm that at 01:30 local time today, en route from Bali to Darwin, the Bridge look out on board ORIANA identified the bow of a sunken vessel. The ship turned around and deployed an investigative team. The sunken ship was identified by this team and the relevant local authorities and coast guard have been notified."
In a coincidence it was a year ago on the 12th February that ORIANA was one of several vessels that took part in a search and rescue operation when a fishing vessel and container collided of the South Devon coast and several people went overboard.
"As with her cherished namesake and her sister the sacred CANBERRA, old acquaintance will be more than enough to ensure that whenever the great ships of Britain are brought to mind, another ORIANA shall now never be forgot."
