Boarding ORIANA in Dubai on the 22nd of January was P&O's newest and youngest Captain, Robert Camby who took over from Captain David Pembridge.
Captain Camby interest in maritime matters began in the 90's when travling on board ORIANA's illustrious 'mother' CANBERRA when he visited the liners bridge.
Having no doubts on his future path he commented in various interviews that "I was able to visit the bridge, and that’s when I really knew what I wanted to be"
As turned out CANBERRA was to play an even bigger role as he was assigned to the ship as a Cadet.
Since then he has has been assigned to various ships including each of the various classes of Princess ships including the first ROYAL PRINCESS.
Taking a break from deep sea travel for a year he joined Condor Ferries on board their "fastcat" service from the Southern English coast to the Channel Islands.
Returning in 2005 he was assigned the role of Navigator on board Cunard's QUEEN MARY 2 where he continued his rise through the ranks to Staff Captain (Now called Deputy Captain).
Back with P&O he has also served as second in command on board AURORA.
"As with her cherished namesake and her sister the sacred CANBERRA, old acquaintance will be more than enough to ensure that whenever the great ships of Britain are brought to mind, another ORIANA shall now never be forgot."
