ORIANA-A ship that shaped the future

While CANBERRA was referred to as "the ship that shaped the future" when she was completed in the early 1960's it can also be said that in many ways ORIANA is fitting of that description.
As the first purpose built cruise ship for their UK market P&O designed ORIANA to as they described it at the time be a ship which "inlaid the technology of the future with the values of the past" being firstly and foremost a cruise liner yet having the stamina and grace of a true ocean liner sadly lacking from the majority of ships built since.
It is interesting to note that 9 years later many of the press techniques used to advertise ORIANA was recycled for Cunard's QUEEN MARY 2s entry into service, although being that the vessels style was more Americanized than ORIANA its presence in the UK didn't capture the imagination is quite the same way as ORIANA in 1995.
