Yesterday ORIANA made her maiden visit in Portugal's northern port of Leixões, Oporto, returning home after a long 3 day journey at sea from Naples on her 16 night West Mediterranean cruise.
Curiously two days before, on 30th August ORIANA's near fleetmate sister, AURORA made her inaugural too in Leixões harbour.
Also in this year, P&O's OCEANA and ARCADIA have made their maiden calls in Leixões, on May and July respectively.Leixões is one of the main ports in the country if refered to cargo activities, alonside Lisbon and Sines and is growing rapidly as a cruise destination with more and more cruise cruise ship calls every year. In the portuguese cruise sceane, Leixões is the third largest port after Lisbon and Funchal.A development benefited by the new cruise terminal opened early this year, that allows the berthing of even bigger ships in port.
In these images, authorship of José Modesto, ORIANA is seen berthed in Leixões newest cruise terminal.
"As with her cherished namesake and her sister the sacred CANBERRA, old acquaintance will be more than enough to ensure that whenever the great ships of Britain are brought to mind, another ORIANA shall now never be forgot."
