On the late November of 2009 ORIANA was yet again cruising the atlantic isles and on the 23th visited Funchal, Madeira. As she arrived early in the morning from Tenerife, ORIANA made her way to the berth on south terminal by portside. Alongside was already berthed AIDA Cruise's AIDA LUNA, as well another Carnival owned ship built in Meyer Werft of Papenburg.
Later on, the MSC FANTASIA docked her 138,000 GT and 333 meters of lenght at ORIANA's stern.ORIANA when launched was one of the top 10 largest ships in the World, but if compared to a modern super cruise ship like FANTASIA she doesn't look that big, looks even smaller than a medium sized ship as she's considered nowadays. But as we know in this industry size doesn't matter and ORIANA doesn't fall behind from FANTASIA in other aspects, only for the contrary...Comparisons aside, both ships didn't miss to exchange horns between them, during ORIANA's sail away back to her homeport Southampton. The following video documents it, showing how amazing the world of shipping really is.
"As with her cherished namesake and her sister the sacred CANBERRA, old acquaintance will be more than enough to ensure that whenever the great ships of Britain are brought to mind, another ORIANA shall now never be forgot."
